Mid-West Corvettes, Inc. Secretary’s Report January 8, 2008
President Al Fiscus called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Ben Woolley reported that he received monies for membership renewals and from the company store. He paid bills for internet charges, Sunshine and postage. Ben purchased a $2,000 CD with the money set aside for our 50th anniversary celebration.
Governor’s Report: Walt Zachmeyer reported the sanctions were approved for the July 27th Autocross and the April 6th Rally. Walt will bring the NCCC membership info and pins to the next meeting.
Social: Our “social guy” Bill Porter is in sunny Florida.
Our annual Awards Banquet will be held Saturday, January 26 at the Arbor Village in Moline (behind Menard’s). Cost per person is $17. We need to have the checks for the banquet in to Ellen Hobert by January 15th at the latest.
Speed: Don VanDeWoestyne confirmed our Spring Rally will be April 6. The Autocross will be July 27. The National Guard airport may not be available. The I-Wireless is not available. Don will have more information later.
Car Show: Neal Schroder reminded us of the Custom Rod and Auto Show at the Quad City Expo on January 25-27. Times are: Friday 5:00 to 10:00, Saturday 10:00 to 10:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 3:00. Price is $6.00.
Historian: Waldo Arnholz reported our picnic will be Sunday, August 3 from 11:00 to 4:00. He is reserving the Bettendorf band shell pavilion.
Parades: No report.
Quartermaster: Scott Fleming displayed men and ladies polo and denim shirts at a reduced price, as well as hats and winter coats. He also showed us the types of lanyards available for our name tags. There was a motion to purchase the flat-tape lanyards (red ones and black ones) with MWCC printed on them. Jane will work with Scott to determine the type of name tag which will be best to use with this lanyard.
Charity: Cindy Johnson held three 50/50 $13 drawings for the charity fund, won by Bud Jones, Donna Chambers and Scott Fleming. Cindy reported charity checks were written to the following:
$500 To the Carbon Cliff children who had a fire $300 Camp Courageous for Amy Earnest
Cindy reported since the past three years, over $11,000 has been raised and donated.
Don said the Diners Club project is now complete. A total of 246 books were sold! That brings a profit of $2,460 to the club. I wrote thank you notes to the American Bank & Trust Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager for helping us sell so many books. They did a great job, as well as Dick Krahl and Don VanDeWoestyne.
Membership: Walt introduced visitors and prospective members Ron and Judy Myers. They have an ‘05 silver convertible. They were members in the Galesburg Corvette Club and recently moved here.
Sunshine: Terry reported several cards were sent out last month.
Publicity: No report.
Webmaster: Walt prepared the event list on the website. He needs to record dates for the socials as soon as they are available. If anyone wants to host a February or March social, tell Walt. The website is up to date.
New Business: President Al Fiscus stated some of his goals for the coming year. The main goal will be to have fun and a good time for all. We should make everything positive, move forward and plan on having a great year together.
Al said the constitution definitely needs to be updated. Walt agreed to take on this project with a goal to have it completed by July. It may be necessary (and easier) to start over by re-writing and reorganizing the constitution. The committee will be Walt, Al, Denny, Don and Dave. One suggested change was that the Charity position be included on the board.
For our Sunday drive outs, Al suggested that 12 volunteers could set up drive outs, selecting their favorite spot within 100 miles; find the most scenic route, and prepare an itinerary. If some of the retired members have time to do this, please tell Al.
Since many had such a good time last year, Dave Chambers volunteered to set up another Spring Drive to Opryland.
Don VanDeWoestyne will set up another Budweiser night at Stern Beverage, probably around the end of August. Details later.
There was discussion regarding getting together with other Corvette clubs, (such as Galesburg, Newton, Peoria, Cedar Rapids) perhaps have a common drive-out or drive to their area and have them join us.
Old Business: Regarding autocross helmets, no decision has been made if the club will purchase helmets. This will be brought up at the next meeting for a vote. A suggestion was made to contact Brenny’s to see if they would donate helmet(s) and use it for advertising purposes.
Regarding Cordova night, we may wish to try to set this up again in the future.
Walt and Jane are working on badges and name tags.
We had 61 members and two guests in attendance this evening.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 P.M. Motion carried.
Al invited everyone to City Limits.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Paskvan, Secretary
MEETINGS ARE HELD AT 7:00 P.M. ON THE FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH.
