Mid-West Corvettes, Inc. Secretary’s Report March 4, 2008
President Al Fiscus called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Ben Woolley reported that he paid for trophies and also paid Bettendorf Parks for our picnic. He received monies from the club store and the sponsor fee. Motion made and passed to pay the bills.
Governor’s Report: Walt Zachmeyer was not present.
Social: Bill Porter was not present.
Speed: Don VanDeWoestyne said the Rally is only a few weeks away. Get your cars out and cleaned up. Don, Ben and Denny are working hard on the rally plans. (Secretary’s note: Terry Sierens said there will be a breakfast served before the rally at the Blackhawk Fire Department in Milan.)
We will not be able to have our Autocross at the National Guard Airport or at the I-wireless. Other possible dates are being looked at.
Car Show: Neal Schroder gave us the dates for the Quad City Cruisers shows which will be by Penny’s at South Park Mall from 6:00 to 9:30 P.M. They are: April 19, May 17, June 8, July 12, August 2 (which will be at the Isle of Capri), September 27 and October 11. Bloomington Gold dates are June 26 through 29 at St. Charles, IL. Pre-registration by June 1 will be $15 or $20 at the gate. There also is a 4-day pass for $40. This is the premiere Corvette show and would be a good place for a vendor space if you want to sell some parts, etc.
Historian: Waldo Arnholz put together and distributed booklets with very interesting information from our 40th Anniversary. It has historical data, the letter from Paul Castle which started the MWCC, articles, annual reports, early members, officers and photos. Ron Johnson will be heading up the committee to make plans for our 50th in 2010.
Parades: No report.
Quartermaster: Scott Fleming brought the lanyards which we will sell for $2 each. Jane is looking into the best way to attach the name tags to the lanyards. Scott said the club store “donated” $590 of inventory for prizes at the annual awards banquet. He brought several different mens’ and ladies’ shirts for us to look at this evening. It was suggested that maybe the club members should have matching “club” shirts. Also, it was mentioned that we could have a special shirt made up for our 50th celebration. This was put on hold until a later date.
Charity: Cindy Johnson held two 50/50 $20 drawings for the charity fund, won by Dave Chambers and Jerry Paskvan. If anyone has suggestions for charity donations (particularly for children), please tell Cindy.
Membership: No report. We had a guest this evening, Wade Abbott. Wade owns a new coupe.
Sunshine: No report.
Publicity: Don VanDeWoestyne will forward rally information to the newspaper.
Webmaster: The website is pretty much up to date.
New Business: We still need more Sunday drive-out plans. Also, as soon as social dates are decided, let Walt know.
Ron Johnson reported that the Quincy Corvette Club will have a show on May 16-18.
Old Business: Purchasing club helmets was again discussed. A motion was passed that if the club has an event that requires helmets this year, we would purchase three A2005 certified Snell-rated, open-face helmets (a medium, a large and an extra large). They run $135 each.
We had 61 in attendance this evening. A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 P.M. Motion carried.
Al invited everyone to City Limits.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Paskvan, Secretary
