Secretary’s Report

June 5, 2007

President Ron Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Ben Woolley reported on the status of our accounts.  He received monies from the company store.  A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills.  Motion carried.

Governor’s Report:  Walt Zachmeyer reported on the list of events for June.  The quarterly NCCC meeting was held in St. Louis.  They are looking for ways to cut costs.  In the future the NCCC membership cards may be a permanent card with stickers indicating the year.  The Governor’s Meeting mentioned Larry Troxell, as well as nine others, who passed away during the last quarter.  The 2007 convention will be in Nashville, 675 are registered now.  In 2008, the convention will be in Tulsa and in 2009 will be in Michigan or Colorado.  2009 will be the 50th Anniversary for the NCCC.

Social:   It was a successful trip to Bowling Green and everyone learned how to drive in the rain.  We want to recognize Ron Landgraf for his efforts on this trip and also to welcome him and Teresa back to the MWCC.  Those who went on to Nashville and the Grand Old Opry also had a great time.  Thank you to Dave Chambers for putting this part of the trip together.

The Great River Spring drive to Hannibal was also a good time.  There was good food at a restaurant that had an interesting past, some wine tasting and a dose of Mark Twain.

Thank you to Ben and Karen Woolley and Al Durbin and Mary Snyder for co-hosting the June Social.  It was a nice evening in the country and several enjoyed shooting clay birds and participating in other games.  We weren’t even interrupted by the local law enforcement.

We have 12 cars going on the Black Hills drive.  Ron Johnson, Denny Waddell and Mary Snyder are working on the details and will send out an e-mail to those attending.  They will leave on July 18 from Grandma’s Restaurant at the Walcott truckstop at 8:00 AM sharp.  They will have maps and details to distribute.  There may be room if someone cancels.  If interested, let Ron know as soon as possible.

There will be a Sunday drive-out this Sunday, June 10, and also on Sunday, June 24.  As usual, meet at 10:00 AM at the McDonalds by the airport.

Bill Porter was approached by the Quad City Swing announcer to see if our club was interested in attending a Swing game.  After discussion, there didn’t appear to be enough interest to pursue this.

Speed:  Don VanDeWoestyne set up a Cordova night for those interested.  It will be Wednesday, June 13.  They will meet at The Brothers Family Restaurant in Rapids City at 6:00 and go as a group.  Racing will be from 6:00 to 9:00.  It will cost $20 to race your car and you should have a certified M2000 helmet.

The Autocross is set up for Sunday, July 29th.  If you would like to volunteer to help with this event, please contact Don.  The Air National Guard hangar in Mt. Joy is reserved and the insurance is taken care of.

Car Show:  Neal Schroder reported on numerous upcoming car shows. If you would like further information or flyers on the shows, please contact Neal.  Bloomington Gold will be June 14-17 at St. Charles, IL.

Historian:  No report.

Parades:  Alice Lagaisse would like to have some Corvettes in the East Moline July 4th parade to represent the D.A.R.  They would line up at 9:00 AM.  Please contact Alice if  you can participate.  Reminder to let Randy Wlaskolich know if you would like to be on his list of drivers interested in driving in parades.

Quartermaster:  Scott Fleming displayed shirts and other Corvette items.  He held a mini-auction to sell sample shirts to clear his inventory.

Charity:  Cindy Johnson held two 50/50 drawings for the charity fund, won by Vicki McConaghy and Phil Roberts.  Both returned their winnings to the charity fund.  Cindy donated $200 to the Red Cross for local tornado victims.

Membership:  Walt reported we have 138 members and 105 NCCC members.  Guests tonight were Dennis and Beverly Broughton who have a green 1996 coupe and Bill and Bonnie Sturegon who own a red 1981 coupe.

Sunshine:  Mary Boyd reported that 6 birthday cards were sent out in the month of May.

Publicity:  No report.

Webmaster:  Walt Zachmeyer needs to know of any corrections or updates on the website to help keep it current.  Walt maintains an e-mail distribution list of all members.  If you need to send information to our membership, forward it to Walt.

Old Business:  None

New Business:  Al Fiscus made a motion that we change July’s meeting date from July 3rd to one week later, July 10th.  This would be a one-time change for the month of July only.  Motion was seconded and passed.  Webmaster will forward an e-mail to all members regarding the date change.

Randy Carlz suggested making up some business cards containing our club information to give to prospective members.  Denny Waddell will look into this and give us some samples to consider and vote on.

Since our club is getting bigger and we have so many new names and faces, we feel everyone should start wearing our name badges to all meetings and club events.  Please find your badges.  If you need a new badge, let Walt Zachmeyer know.  Starting with the August meeting, a dollar will be charged for anyone not wearing their badge.  Proceeds to go to our charity fund.

Phil Roberts told us his personal “horror” story of having too many speeding tickets in a year’s time.  It can result in losing your license, large fines, driving school, insurance cancellation for the whole family and much higher insurance rates.  Walt said that everyone should drive at their own comfort level on drive-outs.  You are not required to speed as the faster drivers will wait up ahead for the other drivers.  We also encourage the use of CB’s and cell phones to keep in touch on drive-outs.  Secretary’s note:  As we are all mature adults, common sense says that our SAFETY (driver, passenger and anyone sharing the road) is, of course, most important.

Mark Mallicoat told of a mechanical issue with the C-6 Corvettes.  There have been loose nuts on the rear axles.  They should be torqued to 118 pounds.

We had 64 members in attendance, plus four guests.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 PM.  Motion carried.

Ron invited everyone to City Limits.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandy Paskvan, Secretary

MEETINGS ARE HELD AT 7:00 PM ON THE FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH.
