Secretary’s Report

August 7, 2007

President Ron Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Ben Woolley reported on the status of our accounts.  Ben wrote checks for Autocross expenses, club store supplies and to Denny Waddell for the business cards.  He received monies from Autocross proceeds, new member dues, and the company store.  A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills.  Motion carried.

Governor’s Report:  Walt Zachmeyer was absent from the meeting.

Social:  The next Sunday drive-out will be August 19.  Meet at McDonalds by the Moline airport at 10:00 A.M.  It’s under debate if we will go to Burlington to a restaurant Ron Johnson found, or if we will go to Lake McBride and rent pontoon boats.  It depends on the availability of the boats.  You will be advised if we’re going to Lake McBride and please let Bill Porter know if you will attend so we know how many boats to rent.

Two rooms are still available at the Fun Fest in Effingham for September 21 through 23rd.  Tell Bill Porter if you are interested in a room.

The fall drive-out to Winona, MN is scheduled for October 12 through 14.  We will leave from Hardees in Eldridge at 8:00 A.M. on Friday the 12th.  We stay at the Holiday Inn in Winona and drive through some back roads in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Call the Holiday Inn at 507-453-0303, use code MCC which is our block of rooms.  We have special rates which will release on September 14.

The trip to Black Hills was enjoyable even though the weather was hot (110 degrees at Rushmore).  The Autocross was good and we were able to get some better ideas about the Autocross timing equipment.  It may be possible to rent the equipment instead of buy it.

Our Autocross was very successful.  Don VanDeWoestyne had more helpers than jobs this year. Dick Krahl helped Don set up the course the day before.  We had several members who drove the course, Nigel Robins, Ken Anderson, Tom Erps, Denny Waddell and Don VanDeWoestyne.  Waldo Arnholz set up the timing equipment, which he designed.  Al Fiscus provided his motor home for shelter.  Ben and Karen Woolley handled registration and waivers.  Ron Johnson took care of the master score sheets and Jane assisted in tallying.  Dave Chambers helped with registration.  Neal Schroder and Steve Wolfe did the car tech inspections. Bud Jones provided his four-runner, Randy and Jane Huber helped

with the trailer parking, Tom Carroll started all 200 cars, Kathy VanDeWoestyne provided food and drink for the workers.  Deb Arnholz provided the radios for communication.  Denny Meyer, Doug and Beth Randleman, Randy and Barb Wlaskolich, Terry Sierens, Jerry Paskvan, Mark Hermann, Bud Jones and Cindy Johnson worked as spotters.  It went very well.  Thanks to all who helped.

The August social will be co-hosted by Dave and Donna Chambers and Randy and Jane Huber at Huber’s house.  It will start at 6:30 on Saturday, August 25.  Please let the hosts know if you will be attending.  Bring a dish to pass, your own drinks and lawn chairs.  Jane will send out a map via e-mail.

Car Show:  Neal Schroder reported on numerous upcoming car shows. If you would like further information or flyers on the shows, please contact Neal.

Historian:  Waldo has pictures of the low speed and will forward to Walt and to the NCCC.

Parades:  No report.

Quartermaster:  Scott Fleming reported that he might have a “sale” next month to clear out summer inventory.  He will bring catalogs and samples to select fall and winter articles.

Charity:  Cindy Johnson held two 50/50 $22 drawings for the charity fund, won by Jerry DeMarce and Phil Roberts.

Membership:  Jason and Cathy Paskvan are joining the club.  They have a 2001 yellow Z06 coupe.  Guest Bill Horack is a prospective member and he owns a 1994 red coupe.

Sunshine:  Mary Boyd reported that 13 birthday cards were sent out in the month of July and Terry sent out 6 anniversary and miscellaneous cards for July.

Publicity:  No report.

Webmaster:  No report.

Old Business:  We had decided to start charging anyone not wearing a name badge in August.  However, we will delay this until Walt has had a chance to create badges for new people.

The club has decided to not purchase helmets.  It was determined that it was not cost effective, helmet ratings change frequently and sizing would be a problem.  Everyone who wants to race really should have their own helmets.  Therefore, that motion is now dead.

New Business:   The September social will be co-hosted by Neal and Pam Schroder and Tom and Sarah Carroll.  It will be held at Neal’s place of business in Bettendorf on Saturday, September 8.

Dick Krahl talked about the Diner’s Club booklets now available for sale.  We’re trying to get them earlier than other groups.  We sell them for $35 and the club keeps $10 per book for the charity fund.  The coupons are good through November 2008.  Jill Robins will prepare a “cheat sheet.”  They make excellent Christmas gifts.

Denny Waddell brought the new business cards.  He ordered 1,000 and we all took about 5 to distribute to Corvette owners who may be interested in joining our club.  Jane Huber and Denny did an excellent job on the cards and Jane saved the club $125 with her expertise.  The card idea started with Paul Castle when he wanted to start up a Corvette club.  It is important to keep growing.

We had 66 members in attendance, plus guests.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 P.M.  Motion carried.

Ron invited everyone to City Limits.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandy Paskvan, Secretary
