Mid-West Corvettes, Inc. Secretary’s Report October 2, 2007
President Ron Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:07 P.M.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Ben Woolley reported on the status of our accounts. Ben wrote checks for club supplies and postage. He said we profited $278.50 from Auto Cross, and monies are coming in from renewal memberships. A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills. Motion carried.
Governor’s Report: Walt Zachmeyer reported on the Governor’s meeting in St. Louis. There are 33 Governors in the Midwest Region, 13 attended the meeting. There are 2,279 Midwest Region members. As there is a budget deficit, they are considering raising the dues for 2009. It is important that we belong to NCCC as it gives us insurance coverage for the meetings, car shows, etc. if we should be sued. The 2008 convention will be in Tulsa and the 2009 convention will either be in Grand Rapids or Colorado Springs. Our rally for next year will be either March 30 or April 6, 2008; our low speed will be July 27.
Social: We want to thank Neal and Pam Schroder and Tom and Sarah Carroll for hosting the September social. It was a great evening and good food. The next social is Ron and Cindy Johnson’s Halloween party on Saturday, October 20 at 6:30. Brats and chili are on the menu. Bring a dish to pass and your own beverages. There is always serious competition for best costumes! Please let them know if you plan to attend.
The MWCC Fall Drive-Out to Winona, MN will be October 12 through 14. We will leave from Hardees in Eldridge at 8:00 A.M. on Friday the 12th . Please be there by 7:30 with a full tank of gas. There will be 23 cars on this trip. Al Fiscus drove the route we plan to take to check out any road problems.
Tom Carroll set up a Quad City Flames and MWCC kick-off for the hockey season for Sunday, October 7. Dan Collins (from Happy Joe’s) will be our host. We will park on the west side of i-Wireless in a secured area to display the cars. The game starts at 3:00. Be there at 11:00.
There was a Sunday drive-out September 30. The group drove to Peoria and stopped at Tanner’s apple orchard. They corralled the Corvettes for us and pie and ice cream were enjoyed. The last drive-out for this year will be Sunday, 7 October. Meet at McDonalds by the Moline airport at 10:00 A.M.
Many of us had a great time at the “beer sampling” event (which was really “buckets of beer”) at Stern Beverage in Milan on Friday, September 28. Don VanDeWoestyne did a fine job setting this up and also providing the wings, and we hope to do it in the future.
Speed: No report.
Car Show: Neal Schroder reported that the car shows are about over for the season. However, there will be a few more car shows and a couple cruise-ins in October. If you would like further information, please contact Neal.
Historian: No report.
Parades: Randy Wlaskolich said Moline High School was looking for Corvettes for their Homecoming parade on October 12. This is the same date we have our Fall Drive-Out. If you can participate in the parade, please call Randy.
Quartermaster: Scott Fleming displayed some caps for sale.
Charity: Cindy Johnson held two 50/50 $23 drawings for the charity fund, won by Carol Mathias and Jim Scranton. The winnings were turned back in to the charity fund. Cindy reported she donated money to an organization that provides toys and clothing to children whose parents have addictions.
Dick Krahl talked about the Diner’s Club books. He reported 38 have been sold at the bank, Nigel and Jill sold 12 and Rosie Meyer sold 4, so far a total of 97 have been sold. All orders need to be turned in by December 1.
Membership: Walt Zachmeyer told us we now have 156 members in MWCC and 105 in NCCC. Please send your dues payment to Walt as soon as possible.
Sunshine: Terry Sierens reported on the number of cards she sent out in September. Mary Boyd was not present.
Publicity: No report.
Webmaster: No report.

Voting will be at the November meeting.
Since the club’s bank balance is high, there was discussion on how we could distribute the excess funds. We would need to set aside a specific amount for MWCC 50th year celebration and be sure to maintain a “minimum” balance for the future. Members are encouraged to give suggestions.
The club’s Constitution will be updated for 2008 and will continue to be accessible on the internet.
There was a discussion and a misunderstanding regarding the traditional Fall Drive-Out. There is only one club-sponsored Fall Drive-Out. Some of the members, who did not plan on attending the Winona trip, chose to take a separate trip on their own. Their trip is not club-sponsored.
Since many members have attended the Winona trip several times, it was suggested that a committee be formed to work with our Social Director, Bill Porter, to do the leg-work and perhaps come up with some different trip choices.
We had 69 in attendance this evening.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:18 P.M. Motion carried.
Ron invited everyone to City Limits.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Paskvan, Secretary
